Hi All,

I'm joining from Nairobi, Kenya. I'm an US expat who has been living in Africa for 6 years now. I have been taking yoga classes off and on for perhaps 8 years now, but never developed a practice. As a New Year's Resolution I made a promise to myself to begin the habits that I wanted to take with me throughout the rest of my life, yoga being one of them.

So I've been getting involved in the yoga community here (small and irregular) and also keeping a journal of my practice. I'm currently doing the Ashtanga Primary sequence every other day and am now seeking other variations to fill out my practice, so i'll be asking questions to that effect on the forum.

As I don't have a regular teacher here I rely on the web () perhaps more than I should, and I'll be consulting you all for suggestions and directions to investigate.

Thanks, Sarah

Welcome to the forum! Have you considered maybe getting a DVD to practice with?

yes i do have several dvds, but they are not helpful for asking questions or make adjustments . it's also very difficult and expensive to get them here so i order once a year when i'm back in the states. in addition, i don't have a tv so i have to use my laptop and it's difficult to get the screen in the right place throughout the practice to see what's going on. complain, complain, complain. so right now i'm reading "The Heart of Yoga: Developing a Personal Practice" and finding it very informative and i think it will help me widen my practice from the ashtanga primary sequence.

This weekend the local ashtanga community has organized for Caroline Kebl to come give sessions and I'll be taking a yoga holiday to Tanzania in May for a long weekend of classes, so i'll just get all my questions together for those sessions.

wow..africa..!!

if you type in keywords in the search section u can find past posts on issues u might be looking answers for. i've found it really helpful.

but sounds like you are doing everything u can at the moment, given ur situation just by surrounding yourself with like-minded people will help you find answers on your journey.

peace
