Hi all I am new to these forums, I have lurked a bit and finally decided it was time to join in. (I'm a little shy)

My yoga journey began 12 years ago, I started a home practice with an old Richard Hittleman book I found at a garage sale. I soon moved on to VHS tapes and was hooked. I was finally able to take a class (we were in a remote area - no classes available) about 3 years into my practice, I loved it!
Finally after about 9 years of home practice and a rare class, we relocated to Los Angeles and I am in Yoga heaven.

I finally decided to take it to the next level and start my Yoga Teachers Training Program next weekend. Its a 16 day intensive and I am excited, nervous, anxious - you name it I'm feeling it!

Ive enjoyed reading all the thought filled, compassionate responses to peoples questions here - it seems like there are so many warm and kind people who are eager to take the time to help fellow yogis and look forward to getting to know you all!

Namaste, Nadine

Namaste Nadine,

Welcome from just lurking around. First off congratulations with your discipline, doing your yoga no matter what your circumstances that I really commend in a person and for me it is the hallmark of a yogi at heart.

Yes, after many years of yoga the natural outflow for many would be to move into the next step and that is teaching. But teaching really demands a lot from you, you have to give more than you can ever think, it is not just teaching, but of yourself you give a lot. I am concerned about the fact that you mentioned that you are a little shy, before going into this you have to work on this aspect of your personality as teaching has very little space for shyness. If you are shy to come onto an internet forum where your basically anonymous, you have to ask yourself how will you do in front of a class.

I am not discouraging you from doing your teacher's course, but these are aspects that you have to be realistic about and find the solution before you go this all the way.

Good luck and I trust that you will know what to do.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Pandara - you make some very good points. Quite insightful and I agree with you. I am taking the teacher training course mainly as a challenge to myself and for personal growth.

I don't see myself teaching classes to adults, my ultimate goal is to get certified to teach children. I am a nanny and I love working with children. Thank you for your honest feedback.

namaste,
Nadine

It's very impressive to me that you kept up your yoga for three years with no classes. Wow! As others have said, that does take some self-discipline. Good for you!

I'm sure you'll have a great time in teacher training. Maybe I can do that too...someday! Best of luck!

Hello Nadine and welcome to the forum! I am glad that you will sharing here too, as well as reading along. It is wonderful to hear how others fall in love with yoga through their home practices, as I am home practitioner too. What are the ages that you are thinking to teach in the future? There are some excellent children's programs out there that you can add to your studies when you are ready. Until then, have a great training and enjoy learning for the sake of your own practice. It all comes from this lovely place!

Namaste,
