well for the last week I had felt in my negative mode, which I get in sometimes. but I have still done my practice of asanas, breathing, and meditation. I had also changed my diet in the last couple of weeks, some more rice and beans and vegtables. so after being stuck for basically the whole week, meaning normal release of bodily wastes, it seems to have gotten released, I wont go into details on that. After that had gotten released, a lot of my negative emotions seem to have went with it. I had observed this in myself before a few months ago. the more times this happens the more I observe, the more I learn, the more questions I will ask, and the more I will learn from those answers as well. I will discuss this on monday with the teacher of the yoga class I will be attending

So the main points I am getting personally from this is
body can affect mind, when body gets stuck mind may get stuck.
be observant when you make a change in diet if it changes a pattern in daily elimination routine your emotions may go with it as well

who knows maybe there is a correlation or maybe not

Just thought I would share an experience,

Hi Tubeseeker,

I have found when my intestines are all blocked up that this creates toxins to leak into the blood system and this makes the energy level drop as the body tries to rid itself of excess toxins. When energy levels drop it is easier to identify with thoughts, may be negative ones, and this in turn creates emotion. That's my observation.
with constant practice and determination, we can be so aware in each moment to catch or see these thoughts, even when energy is low in the body or we are sick, and we will surely reach a point where this doesn't matter anymore and we no longer react to the negative thoughts, and so not creating emotion.

Let's keep it up...even if we fall into reacting to thoughts... the time we are stuck in this will lessen...as our friend Hubert mentioned in 'what does yoga mean to you" thread...

I am new here and find your words quite inspirational. Constant practice and determination are most important things for me also in life. It really helps.

Hi i am just finished reading a book called ' Stop Thinking Start Living' by Richard Carlson which say's the opposite of what you concludes. It probably could help you a lot more than changing your diet.
Keep in mind as well that In the yoga sutras the first sutra states ' stop the mind from thinking' because it is the cause of everything you feel or do

Hi Dutchy,

Good luck in trying to stop the mind. Let me know if you are successful and for how long.
For me I will just keep on practicing detaching from the mind, that means I am ok with the thoughts being there but I do not have to act on thoughts I choose not to act upon. Well, this is what I am practicing and it gets easier with more practice.
The relationship to thoughts changes. They are not who I am (the mind is not who I am).
I am the observer of thoughts. The awareness of thoughts.
The thoughts are like passing cars, I can hear the noise in the background, but do I need to go and chase each car?
To try to stop thoughts is still identifying with them. In my experience, trying to push away thoughts only makes them stronger.
When there is awareness of the thoughts, with no judgment, they pass. Then we are aware of the quietness, the yoga, the union, that Patanjali speaks of, which is always present, behind the noise of the mind. This is who we are, this presence which is always here when we stop grabbing onto thoughts or stop trying to push them away.

We all have to experience this for ourselves, so you have to try your way to see if it works.

Hi soeljourney

If you read well than you see that I don' try to stop de mind but I try to stop thinking about everything and nothing without forcing it. By that I mean all those thoaghts that come into your head for no reasen. So quiething the mind. Isn't that not what you try to do when you meditate in Yoga. Why else do we do all those asana's, mantra singing, yama's, niyama's etc. For the main reasen of yoga is samadi.

our food, like sugars, effect the mind, a very strong mind can overcome that but why use the will power to overcome bad food when you can just eat better and save the mind power for things that cannot be taken care of by diet.

... and in this conversation diet is also on the list of practices. For the same reason you do asana, pranayam etc.
These practices calm the energy, create Sattvic energy, and so make it easier to let go of thoughts, with practice, which leads to samadhi.
