When I am trying to do the downward dog position, I can not get my heels flat on the floor. Is this a problem or is this ok?

I suppose there are a multitude of ways to respond to your question Brett.
The shortest and most direct answer is "it is more than okay". The length in the spine is far more important than "heels down".
