Strength in these postures
I've been practicing this series of poses for a few days. I'm curious about how often I should do it and for how long at a time. Check out the link. It'll show you what I'm talking about. The last pose (crow pose) is still a goal for the future as I haven't the strength for it yet. So, I could use some input from you yoga masters out there on the best way to practice this series of poses to gain as much as I can out of it. Thanks!

Yoga masters? It takes decades to become a master of Yoga and many who have spent those decades are still not at "mastery".
But I will answer your question as a yoga teacher. Generally speaking, when getting a series of movements from someone else and having that someone else promise result x or result y it is best to ask THAT person how to do them and at what frequency. With all due respect to the teacher you have chosen, her poses are quite sloppy (and since she's modeling them as a teaching element that DOES matter) and he cues, what few there are, are devoid of any sound alignment. You may be fine following her advice. But if you follow only what's she said and shown, you are likely to damage your rotator cuff muscles.

InnerAthlete makes an excellent response here.
The other glaring omission from this sequence is any reference to the breath. Would you take your neighbors Prozac just because it makes them fell good? Vic |

just kidding about the "yoga masters" thing....everyone's a master compared to me.
so, since I'm unable to discuss yoga with the lady in the video, does anyone have any suggestions on where to begin with these poses? I enjoy doing them and they seem to be giving results. should I be repeating until muscle failure or holding for a certain amount of breaths or what? I tremble a lot when doing side plank, but I can still keep my breathing even...I hold it for a least 5-6 breaths each time. |
