Teacher Training Options

Hello!

I did my 200-hr teacher training with Sivananda and I'm now looking to do another training course somewhere else, perhaps not with such a big and recognized organization. Any suggestions?
I'm from Canada and I like the intensives 1-2 months, it can be anywhere. Please send your suggestions/experiences.

Namaste Nataji,

It's wonderful that you completed the Sivananda YTT. There are many organizations that offer 1 month (or more) options. Your question is so broad, however, that it is difficult to steer you in any particular direction.

Perhaps the better question, rather than asking about intensives, is to explore the direction you wish your yoga practice to take. You started digging one well with Sivananda. Do you wish to start digging other wells? If the Sivananda teachings are relevant to you, might it be appropriate for you to go deeper in that beautiful and spiritual tradition?

Do you seek more spiritually oriented practice? yoga therapeutics? stress management training?

For deeper study, it is always wonderful to find one's teacher, and go deep with that teacher and that teaching.

While the experiences of others can help you know what worked for them, only self-study (svadhyaya) will help you know yourself more deeply and help you determine what practices speak to your soul. Then you will know which teachers to pursue for deeper study, and the path will reveal itself.

I wish you much luck on your journey into self-discovery; the next level of training will surely emerge out of that self-inquiry.

Dear Nataji,

My question is now, you have the certificate, why not first start a class, get a studio going and then decide once you have yogis what you must add to your training in order to assist and facilitate their greater understanding and development. Remember, being a teacher is about how you offer what you have learned and gained over the years in a meaningful and practical way to others.

Good luck with your future training and teachings.

The studio I work at here in Miami (Ontologik) is hosting a 200-hour training intensive in June with YogaWorks. I'm not exactly sure how big of an organization they are, but you can check their website (YogaWorks) to see if it is something you would be interested in. At least you'll get a chance to go to the beach!

Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, located in Lenox, Massachusetts has an excellent teacher training program. Go to Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health - Get inspired. Explore fresh perspectives emotional wellness, physical health, and spiritual sustenance. - : for more information. I completed their training in 2004 in a one-month intensive. It was an incredible experience. Kripalu is located in an old Jesuit seminary, across the street you'll find Tanglewood, downtown loads of wonderful places to visit. The 30 days is intense, but it is an experience that will change you. I recommend it!

A suggestion for such a thing could only be that which resonates with me and it would be shear luck if that also resonated with you.

Study with someone you respect, with someone who lives what they teach, with someone who's life you see as being yoga itself.

The rest is just minutia.

what is "200-hr teacher training with Sivananda" , can i take the course in Hong Kong?
i heard something about "Yoga Alliance", is all kinds of yoga certificate should be certified by Yoga Alliance so that can teach?

becos i am wondering how to choose a Instructor Course~

Totally agree with IA.If possible go for the spiritual depths of yoga.That's what I did .The destiny blessed me to meet the yogi who live yoga every moment..a yogi living like any one of us in the society..going into the deeper levels of karma yoga and raja yoga.. floating on the worldly life.

I agree with the other members about look for more spiritual learning, learning from someone you respect, and also maybe getting some teaching experience. One thing I'd like to add is to teach what you will be able to receive the most satisfaction. If you want to work with teens or maybe cancer patients, why not get certified for something like that? The beauty of yoga is that there is a yoga for everyone as well as a way to include it in your life!
