Meditation of weeds

My mind was racing and all over the place. all the emotions one can think of were there.
I went outside to pull weeds
when I first got there I used the heavy rake to force the weeds out of the ground, after a while my labor seemed fruitless, I was frustrated, I wanted to get the weeds out and get them out fast. I reluctantly feel to my knees

On my knees I grabbed a patch of weeds, I pulled the top of the weeds off, knowing I did not get the root, frustrated, how am I going to get all these weeds, there are too many of them

reluctantly again I grabbed one weed, pulled it fast and pulled it hard, only got a little of the root

once again I grabbed a weed, pulled a little slower, I got more root, hmmmm

grabbed another weed and pulled carefully, followed the root and pulled it up, low and behold a very long root, and when I looked on this root guess what I saw, more weeds as I continued to pull weeds sometimes I got a long root, sometimes a short root, sometimes one weed lead to many, sometimes it was only itself, sometimes the largest weed on the surface had the smallest root, sometimes the smaller weed had the largest root, sometimes I dug where there were no weeds and found a root, sometimes one root would pull another root to the surface

I feel calmer and more grounded, I have pulled weeds. Not all of them but one of them, maybe tomorrow I will grab a handful and make the same mistakes, but for some reason I believe the length of time spent making those mistakes will not be as long, I will find my one weed. Maybe I made no mistakes at all, who knows. I just enjoyed pulling a weed

Hi Tubeseeker,

Your post reminded me of what my mother did years ago when she had breast cancer. Well she was diagnosed with the cancer and was ready to go to hospital for a double masectomy. After that she would start a year of chemo treatment. Anyway to help her I got her a book (and I can't remember the title or author) about this lady who cured her cancer by pulling weeds from her garden everyday and as she pulled them out she would basically visualise how the weeds represent the cancer in her own body and how she pulls the cancer from her body.

I helped my mom and eventually she also started doing this visualisation after the masectomy and after the chemo started. Well, she didn't cure herself, but after just nine months of chemo her cancer went into remission and has stayed there ever since, it is now 13 years later.

So perhaps there is something more to weeding that we think. Amazing what we can learn from weeds.

I think pulling weeds is breaking of ahimsa.

But seriously.

A weed is just weed because we see it as something what does not belong to the place where it is. The zen saying "weeds only grow when we dislike them" sheds light on this in a brief and powerful way. This would be an absolutist approach.

A more human approach is that we have weeds in our garden what might prevent us from reaping the fruits of our labor. Being active and ambitious, we are trying to eliminate the weeds. This is not easy, and seeds fall from them, what makes impossible their total annihilation. So where there is a garden, there are always some weeds.
We will be free from this only, when we will born gardeners no more.

I think I might have a problem Hubert, I love gardening and I love my beautiful garden where so many plants, insects, birds, animals and members of the fairy kingdom reside. It is the Taurus in me, love the earth and to connect with it, perhaps next incarnation I won't be born as a garderner, but I hope my love for Mother Earth will always be there.

This reminded me of a lady I knew at my old workplace. She wrote the most amazing poetry!! but she couldn't speak english well so I helped her to correct some of the poems, but every day they made me laugh and laugh. I never smiled so much at work as when I was helping her.

A lot of them were just about every-day things like pulling weeds, or walking outside and seeing the moon. Every day of her life was eventful, even if she was just pulling weeds, and bless her heart she had been through so much. I am happy being reminded of the lessons of weed pulling...

Sunday is my quiet day, my day to go without the disturbances of computer, TV, cell phone, etc.. So again I pulled weeds this past sunday. while out there it began to rain, kept to pulling my weeds, kept to cleansing myself, also got a divine cleanse from a divine source. I welcome the rain for it helped me grow, it also made the pulling of weeds easier.

Hubert, I hear you man, you help to keep my on my toes, humility, and for that I thank you. when I become pure I will let you know please dont hold your breath my friend

A time will come where there will be no weeds in our garden. Than we must help others to weed their gardens. So exercise in this is never in vane.
For now, I have trouble with a big one in my own garden.
