Hi. I am having difficulty performing the stomach cleansing, kunjal kriya. I can induce the gag reflex, but I was only able to expel at most 100 mL of the two liters of salt water that I drank, despite massaging the base of my tongue for a good 10 minutes. I believe the problem may be that whenever my stomach tried to expel its contents, my diaphragm would also reflexively tense, a decades-old vomiting-avoidance reflex. I don't seem to have volitional control of this reflex. I tried relaxing as much as I could when I could feel the gag reflex arising, but my diaphragm would tense up anyway.

I'd appreciate any advice about how to fix this, or suggestions as to other possible causes.

Thanks.
Alex.

Dear Throwaway,

I am moving this post to Mukunda Q&A for his response. His experience as a teacher of kriyas may provide an answer for you.

Namaste,
Chandra
