HELP-Discoid Lateral Meniscus 4.5year old girl

Hi Everyone

Any help that can be given will be most appreciated, I am really desperate and dont really want to go down the surgical route of athroscopy.

I have a 4.5 year old daughter who has been giagnosed with a discoid lateral meniscus after a MRI scan.

The radiologist has reported the following:
The discoid lateral meniscus has expanded with abnormal intrinsic signal due to mucoid degeneration. There is significant thickening of the inner portion of the discoid lateral meniscus which may be responsible for the locking of the knee. Normal appearance of the medial meniscus. Intact cruciate and collateral ligaments as well as the extensor tendons. The visualised bones return normal marrow signal.

------------------------------------------------

The knee can move backwards and forwards but is -30 degrees from a full extension of 180 degrees however can move perfectly fine backwards or side wards.

Please, please reply ASAP your answers will be most appreciated as I realy want to avoid surgery.

If you live near Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK please let me know if you can assist with alternative treatments please let me know my number should anyone wish to contact me is - 07980585243 (UK)

Many Thanks

I can certainly appreciate not wanting your child to have surgery that is unnecessary. Is the surgery under consideration arthroscopic? Much less invasive and painful than the old kind.

Rather than accepting advice from people who are strangers to you and whose credentials you cannot confirm, perhaps it would be wise to ask yourself a few questions to help you make what seems to be a difficult decision.

Is your child currently in pain? Will the surgery reduce/remove this pain?

What is the potential for future complications if this is left untreated? If surgery is done?

Have you sought a second opinion?

I hope you can find the answers you seek and that you will make the best possible decision for yourself and your little one. Good luck.
