Please clarify for me: on JF'ing #5, internal rotation: when dropping the big toe down and moving the leg inwards, can the hip lift off the floor? Thanks.

Namaste Maria,
From looking at my notes from class, and from the private sessions observing Mukunda with clients, that actively lifting the hip off the floor is way for those who continue to build strength to progress in #5-internal rotation; though many clients will start with hip on the floor due to weakness in gluteus medius. It might be a good idea to have the student (or you) palpate the medius to make sure the effort is there when the hip is lifted and has not shifted into the maximus. Source: Mukunda Stiles' book, Structural Yoga Therapy-Adapting to the Individual, Chapter 15; The Joint-Freeing Series: Pavanamuktasana, page 125. Blessings,
