I am looking for postures to help relieve and reverse kyphosis? This is a condition that has plagued me for years and is now causing me much pain on a daily basis. Any and all help you could give me would be appreciated.

A:The way that Structural Yoga Therapy works is that it focuses on the weakened muscles from your condition and develops strength in those specific regions. The asanas are graded according to how strongly we need to address that region. So I can only answer your question in a limited way without a personal assessment. For more specific and effective program you would need to be seen by me or one of my graduates across the US. Their contact information is on my website under individual sessions, graduates and SYT trainings. As a general guideline it is obvious you should be doing backbends in the region between your scapula. Possible poses are found in my book Joint Freeing Series # 6/A; Half Forward Bend B; cat bow, downward facing dog, bridge, cobra, camel.

For future reference Q such as this are best addressed on www.yogaforums.com where I keep an archive of such Q for others benefit. Over 200 pages are there and are searchable by topic. This A will be posted there so that my students and readers may ask follow-up Q about any topic that arouses them.
