Since I last flew to India, end of August 2006, after sitting 40-55 minutes in Svastikasana or 20-30 minutes in Padmasana, I have pain in my outer R leg (butocks, thigh or lateral knee). Previously it was in the lateral foot, but this has subsided. It has improved since I added parsvottanasana, gomukhasana and janusirshasana and the wall groin stretch to my usual practice of garudasana, trikunasana, sirshasana ( 15-20Minutes), paschimotasana 3-5minutes), chakrasana, and yoga mudra. The other postures I hold 12 breaths or one minute (on each side if indicated). I also intermittently do soorya namascar, vrkshasana, sethu'sana, sarvangasana, matsyasana, salabhasana, dhanurasana, etc as time permits. I am assuming there is trouble with abducters and external rotatiors of my R hip with tightness of internal rotators and adductors. My Left hip and leg are well mannered.

Sadhana also includes japa, dharana, dhyana, pranayama, svadhyaya (Gita and Yoga Vasishta in sanskrit)
I am now over 60 and have been a yoga teacher for over 30 years, Sivananda tradition.
Any suggestions?

Impossible to say what's going on in your outer thigh merely from a listing of your practice. That sort of thing needs to be seen rather than heard. From a yoga therapeutic perspective it would be beneficially (for me) to see you so I could determine in what movements your are overly mobile or overly immobile and what sort of alignment and actions you are inserting into your asana practice.

It could be many things anatomically speaking.

You will need to see a doctor to get diagnosed. Also, the doctor can verify that Yoga practice is safe for you. Then, once you have the diagnoses, you can figure out what postures are best for therapy.

I think it would wise to give the people here at Yoga Forums this benefit: if they were interested in seeing a medical doctor about a non-critical issue, they would have. This is a Yoga forum, so people are here to ask others for Yogic recommendations. This poster has been a Yoga teacher for over 30 years in a classical and complete tradition. I feel comfortable trusting Geeta Jyoti's instincts to ask here for advice to help with her leg pain.
