Dear Mukunda,
It is just over a month since I attended your London workshop which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have been incorporating the exercises that you recommended in to my practice including the SI joint stabilising series and the kinesiologist who is working with me on my spinal problems is pleased with the progress I have made since London. I have a question regarding spinal curvature and consequent exercises to help correct it. I have an S shaped curve and I find that when my practitioner adjusts me using osteopathy, my lumbar becomes unstable (I have 3 herniated disks) but the congestion in the shoulders, T4 and arms loosens up. For the next following days I feel I am going to put my back out at any moment. After a week this sensation goes away as the upper spine moves back in to its old position gradually and I feel stable below and not so, higher up! I imagine that if I could work on the muscles shortened by the s curve in the upper spine I would be able to help correct this misalignment but I am unsure about how to go about this. Could you suggest anything? My practice alternates between your joint freeing series and structural yoga asanas plus a few isolation exercises of weak quads and tight hamstrings on the left leg to correct a twisted hip. Thank you for your wisdom. Mary-Jane Holmes |

I have found the paper by MM Burt on functional scoliosis very useful and supportive for anyone viewing this post. This can be found at the yogatherapycenter.org under syt paper section.
