Why is it that when I take some deep breaths then hold, I start seeing colors? Till I get another breath back in? I remember last night I was standing over a coffee table, my arms were out like a bird and I was stretching, I held my breath for 5 seconds then slowly released, I started seeing colors and almost passed out from repeating. Why?

I’ve heard that whenever you do a yoga breathing exercises that if you get dizzy or light headed we should stop. Why, when it feels like being stoned. It’s kind of like an out of body or mystical experience.

If getting high is your yoga then you will persist. But i propose you consider that getting high is not nearly as delightful as getting blissful. Bliss comes from Spiritual awareness. Getting High is likely to be the result of ama (Ayurvedic term for toxicity in your system) trying to get out. We have three organs of elimination - lungs for excess kapha; skin for excess pitta; and colon for excess vata. Purging any of these organs gets you high. I assure you what is happening is like getting out of your body but that is a pretty low level altered state. There is much more available for you. A time tested and ethical way to clear this with deep breathing is Kundalini Yoga - see www.3HO.org I certainly know getting high, i am a product of the ganga and chemical experiments of the 60s. Classical Yoga is for the purpose of sadhana (literally means to purify the gross body) so the subtler bodies can be revealed.- - the subtlest of them is you free of any add-ons. blessings. mukunda
