Eat, Pray, Love

Anyone here read this? I'm about 1/2 done. She is currently in India. I'm really enjoying this book and many of my own thoughts about spirituality are articulated more clearly by this woman.

YES! I have read it ... it is simply WONDERFUL! One of my top-ten favorite books of all time. And I LOVED her India adventure. Makes me dream of taking a pilgrimage to India to study Yoga!

What a wonderful book. The author was very fortunate to have been able to travel and experience all that she did. Very inspiring book!

Alix, this is such a great thread idea, as I love this book too! I've read it twice and her time in India was my favorite too. I have a little secret that I know where she was in India from her descriptions of her guru and her lineage's Mahaguru.

I always feel silly fessing up to that fact that I enjoy (most of) Oprah's programs, but did you see when the author, Elizabeth, was on her show? It was great and Richard from Texas was on there and he was so funny...and he looked exactly how I pictured him from reading the book.

Nope, I don't usually watch Oprah. I am sorry to have missed that one though.

OK, silly thought to add to this. I was reading her thank you's to the folks who donated money to build the house in Bali, and one of the contributors was Scott Westerfeld. That struck a chord with me. I really love his books too. (They are classified as Young Adult, but they are well written and have a wonderful social and environmental message in them) It didn't surprise me to find that these two authors knew each other.

I have to admit, I've been to Italy and it was exactly as she describes. Full of pleasure. I am now thinking I wouldn't mind a trip to India, although I will keep in mind Richard's rule of not touching anything. LOL.

I love the balance in this book between physical pleasure/growth, spiritual growth and emotional growth. It just tickles me on every level. Its a book that I would recommend to many of my Christian friends who look a bit warily at yoga. It just describes so perfectly the spiritual side of things.

I also love how self deprecating she is, she is not shy about sharing what most would consider the most intimate moments of her life. How lovely to see.

Never heard of the book, but it sounds very interesting. I'll have to add that to my amazon wishlist

I only liked the book, didn't love it. I enjoyed the part about Italy and Indonesia quite a bit. I was hoping for more cultural stuff in the India section. I found her a bit self absorbed, but I guess when one is writing about their own personal journey they would be.

Definitely worth reading, just not my fav book of the year.

Watched that particular show of Oprah last night.

My ego was quite annoyed, and I had to struggle not to identify with it.
Darn, she (the author) used "MY" Leonard Cohen quote !!!

This happened for me too Alix. My mom--a Catholic and Bhakta, though she doesn't use that term for herself--began to see the deeper connection of Yoga that I experience after she read this book. It helped us connect with one another and also calmed her many concerns around my Yoga practice. She is now more interested in creating a Yogasana and meditation practice for herself. Through the book, she saw it as a way to deepen her spiritual connection within her already devoutly Catholic faith. If the masses get nothing else from this book, this shift in perception would be enough for me to sing its praises!

Sadgurunath Maharaj ki Jay!

Nichole, EXACTLY!!! I didn't have the words but you said exactly what I meant. There are some in my family who seem to think that doing yoga is nearly blasphemous. This book sort of offers a shift in that kind of thinking. I'm offering my copy to many folks.

One of the other things I appreciate about it, the lighthearted tone. Even though the author is dealing with some pretty heavy stuff, she doesn't take herself too seriously and there are many laughs to be had throughout.

this is the first book written by a woman I have read in a long time and I like it a lot. it is nice to hear about the journey through a womans perspective. I am on chapter 66 and look forward to picking this evening.
anyone have any recomendations by female authors of books similar to this?

Wow, it's funny that you should mention this book. My wife stayed up all night earlier this week and finished the whole thing in almost one sitting. Very rare for my wife. Do you think it would be worth the time from a male perspective?

Hey Steve, I'm not sure. I'm not male, but it gave me a giggle or two, so why not give it a go?

I wonder if there is a hungarian translation ... let me just check.
Maybe my wife would like it, too.

I am a male and it was a great book in my opinion. The italy part was not the most intriguing to me but the rest was about as good as any book I have read.
