Namaste,
I visted Mysore in 2005 during Dasarata and it was amazing. I stayed in a very cheap, but clean and neat hotel called the Dasaprakesh (195 Rupees a night and it had a good restaurant attached to it where I ate for less than 80 Rupees per day, it might be more expensive now and I am not sure about the state of the hotel now. Important to ask for a room away from the traffic, mine was room 24 which was beautifully silent, perfect for my meditations and it had a bathroom attached with warm water only in the mornings until 10.). I visited the ashram of Sri Rajarajeshwari and did a joga retreat with a very old (I think he was about 90) but extremely wise gentleman who passed on in the meantime. The lessons I learned from him was and still is absolutely priceless and a cherish the wisdom he imparted, bless him for that. About Mysore, it is one of India's poorest cities and the extend of the poverty is comparable to that of Calcutta, so brace yourself if you hadn't been to India before. It is a beautiful city with magnificant palaces although not well looked after. The temple of Mother Chandramundi on the hill is worth visiting as well as Nandi Bull. There is also a very large Buddhist community in Mysore and large temple complex as well, also worth visiting. Enjoy and do let me know if this was helpfull at all.

Thank you for your detailed reply. It's so helpful, you cannot imagine how much.
The place becomes closer when you meet someone who has been there, it's comforting. I plan to stay in a hotel for few days, at the beginning, till I find an apartment/room for long-term rent. |
