1. Avocado - in place of your craving for bad fats and cheese.
2. Fresh Vegetable juice - with dark leafy veggies (kale, romaine, broc) celery, carrots in place of milk 3. Grapes as my favorite fruit always in the morning, never after or with cooked food 4. Tofu in place of animal protein 5. Sprouted grains and tortillas in place of bread |

I'm having it tomorrow with some toasted corn tortillas.
Its really hard being limited to just 5 foods, you have to extend it for some leafy romaine and ginger carrot dressing and a handful of almonds as just more daily staples. I also eat a bag of mini carrots between breakfast and lunch. |

1. Fruits of the season (cantaloupe, peach, raspberry, blueberry for my region)
2. unleavened bread (wheat), expanded millet, brown rice 3. hazelnuts, peanuts, cashew (raw, unroasted) - I try to have less of them, as I can have them during the winter 4. tomatos, eggplant, onions, 5. seasonings: basil, parsley, lemonjuice, olive oil (cold pressed), salt These would be my top five ... I also use salmon, eggs, cheese (mozarella), plain, low fat yoghurt to a small degree and sometimes when I am down, sweets like icecream, chocolate, white bread with jam/honey and butter ... Oh, I forgot the occasional lamb. 2-3 times a year (catholic holidays) I must admit, it is really delicious.

… also time of day when food is consumed is important. Also to consider is the season.
Main meal in mid-day great (when agni fire greatest) main meal in the evening – not so good. I try to avoid Nightshades (Tomatoes, Eggplant, Potatoes..) I do indulge occasionally & get away with it. The day starts with a glass of warm water followed by a mug of hot water with Lemmon & Honey, every day regardless of season. Being a Vata implies I have a big breakfast of oats (with raisins, Prunes & Almonds added) cooked in water, accompanied by a mug of green tea with a little honey – oohh nice. I follow a mainly Vegan diet. I say mainly since I do sometimes have Cheese. I feel much more satisfied with this diet. I am never hungry till close to meal times. I have some fruits mid morning. |

On a side note: I visited a warm and moist Caribbean island a few months ago (and again next month) and honestly was only hungry for fresh fruits, nuts and grains for five days straight. I'm pretty sure that the warm and moist climate of the salty Caribbean sea is the perfect complement to my dosha and I should just move there now in order to stay balanced. Agree? Everyone agrees. FYI, be careful with the peanuts. Very addictive stuff and they are actually legumes so I've read they don't contain the healthy qualities as almonds or macadamia nuts. |

I love your ideas of starting your day with a warm drink that's not coffee. I was doing that with caffene free high quality herbal teas (and of course a tea spoon of honey). But i just can't get myself to give up the coffee as of late.

Happy Warrior: I agree Peanuts are not good , but Cashews & Almonds (with skin removed) are great.
Take baby steps to eliminate Coffee, replace with Green Tea (with a little honey) a much healthier option. Suryadaya: great to know I have a kindred spirits in breakfast. Have a great time in the Caribbean. |

Avocado pear gives me terrible heartburn and wind, so I avoid it.
1. Love fruits such as watermelon, berries, apple, grapes and oranges. 2. Adore my glass of milk with honey anytime of the day. 3. Love fresh veggies and trying to eat them raw these days such as carrots, kale, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes & pumpkin (find it too difficult to eat them raw) 4. Chickpeas, my favourite. 5. Goatsmilk cheese and pecan nuts, delicious. I still need my coffee, so I do about two cups a day, but decaf and organic. One need something bad in your life.

I've got a huge Macadamia tree in my back yard. It's got to big and has to go, such a shame.

i have a delicious blend of tea which has hemp leaves catnip and sunflower blossoms in it called "Full of Love" and it really tastes that way.
Another great healthy food: shitake mushrooms: nice protein substitute with agents that are believed to work against cancer bok choy: delicous and loaded with vitamins |

Absolutely Pandara - some veggies are just not meant to be raw!
Don't ever try to juice bok choy. I learned that lesson the hard way - Yuck! Even when you try to sweeten it with carrots. |

1. Oatmeal! With raisins and a little milk. Delicious and veta-balancing.
2. Yogurt. 3. I'm echoing the watermelon from before. Peaches, strawberries, too. 4. Mushrooms, especially when sauteed in butter. 5. Chocolate. |

Just went on a visit to the United Arab Emirates. There I drank a frothy avocado juice topped up with ground cashews, almonds, pistachios and whole raisins. Its very filling and I think it would be very good on fasting days.
I now understand why it is described as God's gift. I am waiting for it to be in season here to try and do it at home. I would suggest all of you to try it. Its really worth. Regards |

geeky,
Chocolate is actually better to have for "dessert" than fruit because it doesn't ferment in the stomach while it's waiting for the rest of your food to digest, particularly cooked foods, whereas fruit should ideally only be eaten on an empty stomach because it's meant for cleansing as opposed to dessert. and can't cleanse if it's stuck in the stomach. Eat Chocolate at night and enjoy without guilt! Dark Chocolate, especially. |

My own yoga teacher used to recommend a little piece of dark chocolate at night and in the morning to ladies who was menstruating, don't know why. Perhaps the ladies can try it and let us men-folk know what the benefits are.
